Powder Room Tucked under the Stairs
Located underneath the stairs as part of the house's original design and construction, the powder room impresses despite its small size of only 21 square feet. The aim was to create a space that drew the eye upward using bright sky blue, canary yellow birds, and white puffy clouds which give the room a light and cheerful feel. The birds are visible from the hallway, adding to the whimsical nature of the space.
Despite the efforts made to preserve the original sink, the exact size gaskets needed for repair were unavailable. To make the toilet easier to use, it was placed in a more accessible position, in order to avoid any need for shuffling around it. Regrettably, the wallpaper removal process caused damage to the walls, which was only the case in this particular room. To remedy this, wood paneling was added to two-thirds of the walls, while wallpaper was used on the upper third. Even though the texture is somewhat visible through the wallpaper, it gives the room a unique and almost hand-painted appearance. Bright and vibrant hues were used to enhance the space, adding liveliness and cheerfulness to the overall ambiance.
