Green for my library room? And it's not even my top color choice! Here’s why I picked it.

Imagine picking a color for your space based on a plan, not heartstrings. This is the story of how green becomes the unlikely hero of my library room, and believe me, it wasn't love at first sight.

When it comes to decorating your home, it can be overwhelming trying to decide on colors for each room. That's why creating a color plan, or a color scheme for your entire home, can be extremely helpful. By limiting your choices of colors, you can make quicker decisions and ensure that your home has a cohesive look and feel.

In a previous blog post, I shared how I have picked specific colors for my home. However, what I didn't mention earlier is that you can have different shades of these colors. By incorporating different shades of the same color, you can add depth and interest to your home. So, if you're planning to decorate your home, consider implementing a color plan and experimenting with different shades of your chosen colors to create a cohesive and beautiful space.

I've already used blue as the main color in the living room and half the bathroom. So, I wanted to try something different for this room and not use blue as the dominant color. I considered using shades of red, pink, yellow, or green as the main color instead. However, since this space is where I work from home every day, and my husband also uses it as his hang-out spot, I wanted to take his opinion into account. Although he likes blue, he doesn't mind other colors as well, which made the decision easy.

This room is designed to be a multi-purpose space, serving as a home office, library, snug, and guest bedroom all in one. When designing it, I had to consider the various functions it would fulfill, as well as my husband's preference for a non-feminine feel. However, I also wanted to make sure that the room felt cozy and inviting at night. To achieve this, I had to choose a color that would make the room feel warm and snug, without being overwhelmingly feminine. I had three colors to choose from - green, yellow, or cream - and since I prefer colors over neutrals, I ultimately decided to go with green. The sunny nature of a south and west-facing room with the addition of a green color would remind me of the lush, carefree days of summer. I am excited to see this space come together!
